Groth Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 - Oakville/Napa, CA
The Groth 2016 Cabernet hits on all cylinders. Consistently one of the benchmark wines of the Napa Valley. Another Napa Classic!
Blended with 9% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, this Cabernet opens with a deep, concentrated nose bursting with ripe black fruit and herbal undertones. It expands on the palate to show an elegant structure of finessed, supple tannins with fresh fruit on the palate, and a finish of oak spice and violets.
Groth Winery sits on the 121-acre Oakcross Vineyard planted by Justin Meyer and Ray Duncan of Silver Oak in the heart of the Oakville appellation. This prime Cabernet Sauvignon land serves owner Dennis Groth and winemaker Michael Weis well as they fashion some of Napa Valley's best Cabernets.
Dennis and Judy Groth made a life-changing investment in 1981 when they bought a vineyard on Oakville Cross Road, in the heart of Napa Valley, with hopes it would produce wines as special as their favorites from the region. The 121-acre property had originally been planted in the early 1970s by Justin Meyer, who went on to achieve great acclaim with Silver Oak.
Believing that the magic in the bottle starts with what happens in the vineyards, the Groth family initiated a sustainable replant project in 2018 that will take more than 30 years to complete. This will help ensure healthy vineyards and the ability to make high-quality wines for future generations of the Groth family.
93 Points James Suckling: "Subtle and complex with mint, black currant and licorice aromas. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a fresh finish. Clean and refined. A delicious Cabernet to drink now or later. Yes."
