Domaine du Vieux-Telegraphe ''Telegramme'' CDP 2016 - Rhone Valley, FR
Varietals: Chateaneauf-du-Pape blend
“Télégramme” is the domaine’s second label, sourced from La Crau as well as the domaine’s other Chateauneuf-du-Pape vineyards. Vine age is young, largely around the 20- to 40-year mark, which gives this wine a deep and velvety elegance even in its youth. Fermented in a combination of stainless and French oak, rich and supple red fruit with a hint of liquorice and baking spice. Well-structured tannins, but eminently drinkable even now.
In less than 150 years, Domaine Vieux Télégraphe has managed to cement a position as one of the most iconic producers in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Originally comprising less than a single hectare when first planted to vine by the domaine’s founder Hippolyte Brunier, Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe now encompasses over seventy hectares of vineyards in Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas. The estate’s premier bottling, “La Crau”, comes from vineyard sites that perch atop a windswept, rocky plateau between Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Bédarrides—the plateau’s elevation prompting the installation of the 18th-century communications tower that today gives the domaine its name.
