Chateau les Ormes Saint-Julien Rouge 2016 - Bordeaux, France
Varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot
Small family estate of 1.5 hectares and one of the rare estates in St Julien, right in the middle of the illustrious Beychevelles, yet is not a classed growth. The wine is aged in barrels 30% of which are new. This gives a balanced pretty, fruity wine with restrained tannins & the ripe blackcurrant fruit & spice reflects well from the new-wood aging.
"Chateau Les Ormes is an independent winery situated in the heart of the commune of Saint Julien de Beychevelle in some of the most coveted terroir on Bordeaux’s famous left bank. Sandwiched between Pauillac and Margaux, the wines from Saint Julien offer a nice balance between the robust, powerful wines from Pauillac and the softer, silky wines from Margaux. On the nose are subtle raspberry and cacao notes, and something that resembles dust often found in softer wines. The mouth feel is smooth, with round cherry fruit. Overall the wine is very balanced and bright. Medium to light bodied. Aged in oak barrels."
