Varietals: 100% Nebbiolo

Brilliant garnet-red in color with orange highlights. Firm, elegant and potent on the nose, it has scents of dog rose, mint and tobacco, scents which meld in the course of time into spices, coffee, licorice, truffle, leather and minerals. A full-bodied, rounded bouquet of great structure and balance, redolent of plum jam and withered brambles. The persistent chocolaty aftertaste is harmonious and enticing. Over the years it gradually refines its characteristics to achieve classic elegance and composure.

Barolo Ravera is produced with the grapes of the most important cru in Novello, a guarantee of fine aromas, sapid flavor and great complexity. The mainly calcareous soil of this historical vineyard adds elegance and structure to the wine, making it ideal for aging. Only a few great wines possess its capacity to develop successfully in the course of time. Austere and severe in its early years, Barolo Ravera loses none of its typicality with the passing of the years; on the contrary, it improves all the time. Careful selection in the vineyard and relatively long fermentation help to heighten the characteristics of the grapes, which express themselves to the full after aging in the bottle. A unique testimonial for a prestigious terroir, a wine takes the typicality of the Langa hills to the top in terms of quality.

Following in the footsteps of Elvio the maestro, the Elvio Cogno winery continues to produce wines that tell the family history without altering the traditions, styles and flavors the Langhe area conjures up through the variety of its grapes.

The great wines of Elvio Cogno are born in the old granaries of a farm converted to address the great challenges of winemaking.

Through careful, rational vineyard management-without pushing things to an extreme or forcing, with low yields per hectare and respect for the organic balance of the vine.

Valter Fissore and Nadia Cogno cultivate rigorously autochthonous varietals: nebbiolo, barbera, dolcetto, and nascetta.

Cogno wines seek to transmit emotions, to be remembered. They cheer the soul of anyone who tastes them with enthusiasm and sincerity.

The Elvio Cogno winery sits on the top of Bricco Ravera, a hill near Novello in the Langhe area of Piedmont, one of the eleven communes in which Barolo is produced. The cellar is housed in an 18th-century manor farm surrounded by 11 hectares of land, all occupied by vineyards.

Wine Enthusiast – 98 Points

"Made by the estate that put this celebrated cru on the map, and showing an enviable combination of elegance and power, this stunning wine opens with aromas of wild berries, underbrush, dark spice and balsamic notes of cedar and new leather. The tense, savory palate is loaded with youthful energy, showing succulent Marasca cherry, raspberry, cinnamon and star anise framed in tightly knit, refined tannins and surprisingly bright acidity for the vintage. A mineral note suggesting iron adds depth to the close" -
