Amplify “Mixtape” Red Blend 2019 - Santa Barbara County, CA
Varietals: 37% Tempranillo, 31% Grenache Blanc, 21% Refosco, and 11% Merlot
The second vintage crafting of the red iteration of Mixtape is centered around 2 vineyards, Tres Hermanas in eastern Santa Maria Valley and C5 in the heart of Santa Ynez. From a similarly cool growing season, the 2019 remains a bright, juicy, light red wine, meant for a wide array of foods. Perfect with a chill on it, this can handle big flavors and spice, or act as the perfect porch-pounder for spring and summer. That being said, we find that the 2018 is still incredibly fresh, so don’t be afraid to lay a bottle or two down for a couple of years.
Cameron and Marlen Porter, a husband and wife team born and raised in Santa Barbara County. The exploration, and elevation, of their growing region has been their life's work. The two first bonded over a shared love for wine and music and Amplify is a natural extension of this marriage between the two greatest passions. As winemakers, they seek to amplify the voice of site and enhance the most singular characteristics of a given vineyard, marrying a sense of place with a sense of style. The two believe in: native yeast fermentations; neutral vessels for fermentation and aging; no additions of any kind except for minimum effective sulfur dioxide; and farming that seeks to establish a healthy ecosystem, enhancing and supporting the natural characteristics of a given place. They embrace the happy accident, letting intuition guide their hand, with their creative spirit and palates as the primary tools.
